3 Things You Can Try To Lose Weight

Jaime Allen

Do you want to improve your health by losing weight but are having a hard time doing so? If so, there may be many reasons you have been unable to shed unwanted pounds. Some reasons for having such difficulty losing weight include not exercising enough or not having a support system in place. One more reason for failing to lose weight is that you simply need to try something else. What works for one person doesn't always work for someone else.

Here are three things you can try to succeed at losing weight.

1. Ask a Doctor for Help

You may think you can lose weight on your own, but if you're struggling, a doctor might be able help. There are different types of prescription weight loss medications that a doctor can prescribe. Some FDA-approved weight-loss medications include:

  • Phentermine
  • Liraglutide
  • Lorcaserin
  • Naltrexone
  • Orlistat

Some of these medications help to suppress the appetite while others decrease the amount of fat your body absorbs when eating certain foods. Your doctor will help you determine which prescription weight loss medication is right for you. A doctor can also supervise your weight loss program and recommend certain exercises for you.

2. Eat a Different Diet

There are many different diets to choose from when trying to lose weight. Some people try to eat fewer carbohydrates. Others try a different approach altogether and only allow themselves to eat during certain hours each day. This diet method is called intermittent fasting.

Other types of diets to try include:

  • Vegetarian. You cut out most or all types of meat from your diet.
  • Mediterranean. You eat the same foods as those who live next to the Mediterranean Sea.
  • Paleo. You eat only lean proteins and whole foods.
  • Atkins. You focus on eating foods that are low in carbs and high in protein.

Some people also succeed with weight loss by eating less sugar or they eat a low-fat diet. Each body is different, and it's important to find the right type of diet for you.

3. Improve Your Mental Health

If you struggle with depression, high amounts of stress, or other mental health problems, you may need to address these issues first before you lose weight. Some health issues make it hard to lose weight because if a person is feeling depressed, anxious, or stressed, they might use food as a way to cope.

When a person has mental health issues, they might not sleep well, which also makes it harder to lose weight. Seeking help from a therapist or psychiatrist can help you heal emotional wounds, which can make it easier to lose weight.
