Jaime Allen

If you have a lot of headaches, you could have a sinus infection if the headache is in your forehead and you also have pain in your face. A sinus headache can be very bad and make you extremely tired. If you have never had a sinus infection before, below is more information about this, as well as some treatment options that can make you can feel better.

Sinus Infection

With a sinus headache you will feel pressure behind your cheeks and eyes. You will also have either a stuffy or runny nose and a headache that continually gets worse. If your sinus infection is very bad, you will feel pain in your gums.

Due to the infection, your breath may smell bad, and if you blow your nose, the mucus will be green or yellow. This mucus can also drain down the back of your throat, which is known as postnasal drip. This can give you a sore throat and make you cough, especially when you lay down at night.

Sinus Infection Treatment

If you have very bad symptoms and have had them for over a week, you should see your doctor for treatment. They may give you an antibiotic to help clear up the infection. The doctor may prescribe a saline nasal spray, which is used to rinse out your sinus passages. A decongestant may be prescribed if you have a severe runny nose.

At home, make sure you get a lot of rest so your body will fight the infection faster. Also, drink a lot of water as this can help loosen mucus that may be stuck in your sinuses.

Moistening the sinus cavities can also help you feel better. One way to do this is to take a hot shower. If you do not want to take a shower, turn the water on in the shower as hot as you can get it and close the bathroom door. Walk into the bathroom a few minutes later and it will be full of steam. Stand in the bathroom and breathe the steam into your nose.

Allergy Testing

If you have a lot of sinus problems, it could be due to allergies. To make sure of this, the doctor may send you to an allergist to be tested. The doctor will place small drops of different allergens on your skin, such as your forearm or back. The skin will then be pricked with a needle to see if you have a reaction to the allergen. If you do have a reaction, your skin will become red and you will get hives.

If you are found to have allergies, the doctor can put you on allergy treatment, which will also help with your sinus problems.

Talk to your doctor about this, and they can give you much more information.
