Three Liposuction Questions You May Need Answered

Jaime Allen

It is an unfortunate fact that many people are unhappy with their appearance. Often, their negative self-image results from excess body fat. While dieting and exercise are the preferred ways of losing weight, there are fat deposits that are difficult to lose. Luckily, liposuction is an effective way of removing stubborn areas, but most people do not have firsthand experience with these procedures. As a result, there may be some questions you need answered.

How Long Will Liposuction Be Effective?

Many people are under the impression that liposuction only provides temporary results, and the fat deposits will simply return. Fortunately, this is not the case, liposuction is considered a permanent procedure. When fat cells are removed, they do not readily grow back. The results will last as long as the patient takes steps to monitor their weight.

Unfortunately, it should be noted that the effects of this procedure lessen if a person gains a substantial amount of weight. While it is possible to undergo liposuction again, this is rarely the preferred treatment plan for the patient. As a result, many surgeons will recommend patients to schedule visits with dieticians to help them learn eating habits that will help them avoid gaining weight.

What Is Recovery From Liposuction like?

Some people avoid undergoing this procedure because they believe that the recovery from it will be extremely difficult and lengthy. While every surgical procedure requires recovery, it should be noted that the recovery from liposuction is not particularly difficult.

For the first couple of days after the procedure, the patient will likely experience mild discomfort. During the first day or two following the procedure, the patient should avoid exerting themselves, and they should focus on resting. Once the first couple of days has past, it will be possible for the patient to start returning to their normal schedule.

Can Anyone Undergo Liposuction?

Sadly, this procedure may not be a viable option for everyone. Patients must be healthy overall to be a viable candidate for these procedures. Like any type of surgery, liposuction can place tremendous demands on the body, and your physician must be mindful of complications that can result from health issues. However, if you are healthy, you will probably be able to undergo this procedure.

Liposuction can be an effective way of improving your appearance and restoring your confidence. Yet, these surgical procedures are complex, and it should not be a surprise that there may be a few questions you need answered.
