4 Procedures For A Beautiful Smile

Jaime Allen

A beautiful, healthy smile is very desirable, but if you were not born with one it is possible to change how yours looks. Going to the dentist used to only be for a cleaning or to have a cavity filled, but more and more people are now visiting their dentists, ones like David Jackson, DDS, for cosmetic procedures. There are a number of ways that a dentist can transform your smile.

Teeth Whitening

There are a number of teeth whitening products available over the counter, but dentists are able to use stronger and more effective techniques to make your teeth as white as possible. Many dentists offer two options for teeth whitening, one that happens in-office, and one that you can do at home. For the in-office procedure, you dentist will carefully apply a whitening agent to your teeth, being carefully to avoid your gums. Some in-office whitening procedures also utilize special lights or lasers to accelerate the whitening process.

The at-home whitening option typically involves your dentist creating customized trays which you fill with a whitening agent. The whitening agent that your dentist provides you is stronger than what you can find in the whitening kits at a retailer, and the fact that the trays are custom made ensures that they fit properly.

Veneers

If you are truly unhappy with your smile, veneers can give you a total smile makeover. Veneers are "shells," typically made of porcelain or a resin composite, that are applied to the surface of the teeth. They are available in a variety of sizes and colors, so your dentist can give you the exact type of smile that you want.

Bonding

Cracked, chipped, or unusually shaped teeth may make you feel embarrassed to smile, but a simple bonding procedure can correct those problems. Bonding involves your dentist working with a tooth colored resin which is applied to your tooth and then molded into shape. Your dentist will then polish the bonded area, and it will look just like all your other teeth.

Invisible Aligners

Straight teeth are highly prized, but most people are not born with perfectly aligned teeth. If a crooked smile is bothering you, talk to your dentist to see if you are a candidate for invisible aligners. Unlike traditional braces, invisible aligners are clear retainers that can be removed from the mouth when needed. When worn regularly, invisible aligners shift your teeth to create a straight smile.
